18th NCE Policies to Boost Environmental Sustainability, – Kambari

Katsina, Katsina State — The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Mahmud Adam Kambari, has assured stakeholders that the resolutions adopted at the ongoing 18th National Council on Environment (NCE) will significantly strengthen environmental policy direction and sustainability across Nigeria.

Kambari made the disclosure today, Monday, December 15, 2025, during the opening of the Technical Session of the 18th NCE meeting, hosted in Katsina State.

The Permanent Secretary highlighted the NCE, which serves as the highest environmental policy-making body, as a crucial platform. It enables the Federal Government, State Governments, and key stakeholders to review progress, deliberate on emerging challenges, and adopt unified resolutions that shape national environmental policy.

Addressing the Triple Crisis

Kambari noted that the theme of this year’s Council—“Tackling the Triple Planetary Crisis of Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss and Pollution for Sustainable Development in Nigeria”—reflects the urgent need for collective action.

He emphasized that these environmental crises threaten critical areas, including “our ecosystems, food security, health, and sustainable development aspirations.”

Kambari extended his commendation to the Government and people of Katsina State for their warm hospitality and thanked the Minister of Environment for his leadership. He also acknowledged State Commissioners of Environment, Development Partners, and other stakeholders for their commitment to sustainability.

Earlier, the Head of Service to the Katsina State Government and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Falalu Bawale, welcomed the participants. Bawale stated that their presence was a testament to the collective resolve to maintain environmental sustainability and deepen the effective use of professional expertise.

Bawale thanked the Federal Ministry of Environment for selecting Katsina State to host the prestigious forum, recognizing the NCE as the “most strategic policy organ” for critical dialogue, policy harmonization, and strategic intervention on the environment. He expressed confidence that the Council will offer the state valuable insights into best practices for environmental resilience and adherence to climate change measures.

The 18th National Council on Environment is scheduled to be officially declared open by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025
