‎J. Adaralegbe Abuja ‎ ‎ABUJA – Nigerians may experience a temporary dip in electricity supply this week as Seplat Energy Plc commences a four-day scheduled maintenance on its major gas production facilities. ‎The maintenance exercise, which began today, February 12, is expected to run through February 15, 2026. Seplat Energy, a key Joint Venture partner of NNPC Ltd, provides a significant portion of the fuel required for the nation’s power grid. ‎Ensuring Long-Term Reliability ‎According to an official statement, the shutdown is a routine procedure dictated by industry safety and asset integrity protocols. The primary goals of the exercise include: ‎ * Sustaining optimal system performance. ‎ * Strengthening operational resilience. ‎ * Reducing the risk of sudden, unplanned infrastructure failures. ‎While the maintenance is necessary for long-term stability, the immediate result is a temporary reduction in gas supply flowing into the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC) pipeline network. ‎Impact on Power Generation ‎The drop in gas availability is expected to have a “modest impact” on electricity generation. Several power generation companies (GenCos) that rely heavily on Seplat’s output may see their capacity restricted until the plant returns to full operation on Sunday. ‎> “NNPC Ltd and Seplat Energy are working closely to ensure the maintenance is executed safely and completed on schedule,” the notice stated. ‎> ‎Mitigation Efforts ‎To prevent significant disruptions, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) has confirmed it is currently engaging alternative gas suppliers. These efforts aim to bridge the supply gap and maintain as much stability across the national energy network as possible. ‎Full gas supply is expected to resume promptly on February 16, allowing affected power plants to return to normal operating levels. ‎
