VCN Registrar Charges New Veterinary Doctors on Ethics, Public Health at MOUAU Induction.

The Acting Registrar of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, Dr. Oladotun Fadipe, has charged newly inducted veterinary doctors of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike to uphold the ethics and standards of the veterinary profession in service to national food security and public health.

Dr. Sarah Chimezie representing the Ag. Registrar gave the charge during the 12th Induction and Oath-taking Ceremony for the 2024/2025 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) graduands of the University, held in collaboration with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria( VCN) on Wednesday 6th May, 2026.

Representing the Council alongside its President, Prof. Mathew Adamu, the Ag. Registrar emphasized that the induction ceremony was not only a formal admission into the profession but also a call to responsibility, discipline and integrity in veterinary practice.

Prof. Adamu the VCN president noted that the veterinary profession remains critical to animal health management, food safety, disease control and the protection of public health, urging the new doctors to remain worthy ambassadors of the profession wherever they find themselves.

He also commended the management of the University for sustaining quality veterinary education and consistently producing graduates judged worthy in both learning and character.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Charles C. Ibe, emphasized the need for the graduands to practice within the ethics of the profession. He urged them to remain guided by the laws and regulations governing the profession.

Earlier in her address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Nneoma Elechi Obasi, described the induction as a major milestone in the professional journey of the graduands.

She reminded the newly inducted veterinarians that the profession places on them the responsibility of safeguarding animal health, ensuring food safety and supporting agricultural development.

The Vice-Chancellor further appreciated the Veterinary Council of Nigeria for granting full accreditation to the University’s veterinary programme and acknowledged the support of industry partners in strengthening practical training for students.

A total of 48 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduands were inducted into the profession and issued practicing licences by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria.

Highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding graduands, with Dr. Chimezie Amarachi Blessing emerging as the overall best graduating student, while Dr. Aniorji Sandra Chinonso received the Farm Alert Award.
