Future-Ready Classrooms: NITDA Arms Women Educators with High-Tech Tools

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has presented high-specification HP OmniBook laptop computers to the National Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE). This initiative forms part of the agency’s broader mandate to promote digital inclusion, boost institutional productivity, and drive technology-driven education across Nigeria.

NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa revealed the intervention at WICE’s 30th Annual National Conference, which focused on reimagining teacher education for sustainable development. Inuwa explained that the donated laptops are designed to bolster administrative capacity by streamlining documentation, data management, internal communication, and operational coordination among the association’s leadership.

To complement the hardware delivery, NITDA has enrolled 1,135 WICE members in specialized digital literacy courses through the NITDA-Cisco Networking Academy platform. The online training aims to deepen female educators’ competencies across classroom instruction, academic research, and administrative tasks.

Further strengthening this capacity-building effort, NITDA is sponsoring an in-person masterclass focused on productivity tools, cybersecurity, and generative artificial intelligence. The hands-on training equips educators with practical technical skills to maximize workplace efficiency while encouraging safe and responsible technology adoption.

According to Inuwa, these initiatives directly advance the National Digital Literacy Framework (NDLF) targets of reaching 70 percent digital literacy by 2027 and 95 percent by 2030. They also reinforce the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by fostering a digitally empowered, future-ready teaching workforce.

Delivering remarks on behalf of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Secretary to the State Government Umar Farouk Ibrahim emphasized that teacher education must rapidly evolve alongside artificial intelligence and shifting labor demands. He called for sustained investment in digital infrastructure and highlighted the vital contributions of women educators despite systemic access challenges.

Closing the event, WICE National President Dr. Magdaline Bisong lauded the conference as a vital hub for professional renewal and strategic collaboration. She reaffirmed the association’s commitment to advancing women’s leadership in education and leveraging digital partnerships to raise overall national learning standards.
