The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspected transformer cable vandals in the Tanke-Iledu area of Ilorin, Kwara State, recovering vandalised cables and several tools allegedly linked to the crime.
The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nurah Abdullahi, popularly known as Hartabo, and 23-year-old Sherif Abdullahi, were arrested on October 5, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the NSCDC Kwara State Command.
The Command said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by its operatives in the community.
Items recovered during the operation and subsequent search included vandalised transformer cables, cable outer and inner peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife and a pair of electrical gloves.
According to the Command, preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were allegedly linked to the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure in the Tanke-Iledu community.
The NSCDC State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, saying the Command would continue to intensify efforts to protect critical national infrastructure across the state.
Mohammed warned that Kwara would not become a safe haven for vandals and economic saboteurs, stressing that the Corps would deploy intelligence-led operations to identify and prosecute those threatening public infrastructure and public safety.
He urged individuals involved in the vandalisation of government assets to desist, noting that such acts undermine the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other persons allegedly connected with the vandalism, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations and establishment of a prima facie case.
