NNPC Limited Assures Nigerians of Stable Gas Supply and Reliable Network Availability.

NNPC Limited has reaffirmed that the gas transportation network operated by its subsidiary, NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC), remains fully available to support gas deliveries to power-generating stations across the country. According to the company, its operational records show no transportation-related constraints within the network that could account for the current decline in electricity generation nationwide…. The company reiterated its commitment to advancing the Federal Government’s gas development and monetisation agenda, which has contributed to approximately 10 per cent growth in gas production volumes year-to-date in 2026. NNPC Limited maintained that gas supply availability is not a challenge, stressing its continued commitment to providing safe, reliable and efficient gas supply and transportation to support improved electricity generation.

This clarification follows a statement issued by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) on November 5, 2026, which identified limited gas availability and reduced water inflows to hydroelectric power stations as contributing factors to the decline in electricity generation. NNPC Limited explained that its position specifically addresses the operational status of NGIC’s gas transportation infrastructure, noting that gas production, commercial supply arrangements and actual deliveries to individual power plants are separate aspects of the gas-to-power value chain.

NNPC Limited further emphasised the need for a comprehensive assessment of all factors affecting electricity generation. Such an assessment, it noted, must take into account the availability and operational readiness of generating units, plant maintenance schedules and actual gas offtake levels. These factors are critical in determining whether available gas supplies can be effectively converted into electricity.

The company called for a coordinated review of operational data involving gas suppliers, transporters, power generators and NISO to establish the specific challenges affecting electricity generation. It stressed that accurate information sharing and transparent reporting across the entire gas-to-power value chain are essential to identifying gaps, implementing effective solutions and restoring confidence in the power sector.

Reaffirming its commitment to national energy security, NNPC Limited stated that it remains focused on strengthening Nigeria’s gas infrastructure, supporting efficient transportation systems and promoting collaboration among key industry stakeholders. The company believes that sustained cooperation and improved operational coordination are necessary to maximise the country’s abundant natural gas resources.

NNPC Limited reiterated that its priority remains the development of dependable energy infrastructure and the delivery of sustainable solutions that will translate Nigeria’s vast gas resources into more reliable electricity for citizens. It pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving power generation, strengthening the energy value chain and advancing the Federal Government’s broader energy objectives.
