KWSG committed to innovation in the education sector

The Kwara State government has restated its resolve to support brilliant ideas and innovations to improve education in the State.

The State Commissioner for Education, Doctor Lawal Olohungbebe stated this at the launching of a book titled “Artificial Intelligence Tools Handbook for Teachers” written by a public school teacher in Kwara State, Mrs. Benedita Fadimu.

Doctor Olohungbebe said the State government is committed to innovation in the education sector and ready to support brilliant ideas to advance education in the State.

“We need more professionals like Mrs. Fadimu—individuals who, against all odds, step forward with ideas that can be scaled for system-wide benefit”, the Commissioner added.

He appreciated to the State Governor, Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continued support in enabling innovations like this to thrive.

Doctor Olohungbebe said ” Mrs. Benedita Fadimu, a public school teacher in Kwara State, first reached out to me via WhatsApp in June 2025. She had been trained in the use of AI tools as a teaching aid and expressed a strong desire to cascade this knowledge to other teachers across the state, if given the necessary support.
When we met shortly after, my response was straightforward: “Madam, let me have your proposal.”

The Commissioner noted that Mrs. Benedita Fadimu, delivered and her proposal was subsequently reviewed and refined at the Ministry, with guidance from our technical team under the leadership of the Permanent Secretary.

“We aligned her vision with the state’s broader education priorities and presented a compelling case and his Excellency approved. The training was funded, and teachers from across Kwara State were equipped with practical skills in applying AI tools to classroom teaching.
” Mrs. Fadimu went further to develop a Teachers’ Guide on the use of AI in teaching; translating knowledge into a structured, scalable resource” Olohungbebe stressed.

The Commissioner explained that the ” guide was formally launched. It was a resounding success, attended by the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon Mohammed Saliu Baba Boriya; the Executive Chairman of Ilorin South, Hon. AbdulMajeed Podo; alongside other distinguished stakeholders. Principals, teachers, and students were well represented” .

In her speech, the Author of the book, Mrs. Benedita Fadimu added that as an educator, she believed that education remains the bedrock of any great and prosperous society and one of the greatest tool for transforming human lives.

“Today is not just about the unveiling of a book, but an historic milestone in the annals of history of education in our dear State. It is a new chapter for education in our schools, our communities, and our future” she said.

Mrs Fadimu stated that ” we would all agree with me that we are living in a rapidly changing world where technology is reshaping every aspect of society, including the way we teach and learn. Artificial Intelligence is no longer a distant idea of the future. It is already here, and it is changing classrooms around the world. Thus, the need to transmute my knowledge and experience into a book in a bid to serve as practical guide for teachers in effectively integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching”.

The Author noted that the book was written to help teachers understand that Artificial Intelligence is not meant to replace teachers. Rather, it is designed to support teachers, simplify their work, improve lesson preparation, encourage creativity, and help learners achieve better outcomes in their learning.

” There is no gainsaying the fact that, many teachers have the burning desire to leverage on technology to make their work simpler, faster and easier, but do not know where to start. Some are afraid that AI may be too difficult, too expensive, or too technical. This handbook was created to remove those fears. It provides practical guidance, simple explanations, and useful tools that teachers can apply in their classrooms immediately” she emphasized.

Mrs Fadimu spoke of her vision “my vision is to see teachers become more confident, more innovative, and more productive in the use of AI for teaching, assessment, lesson planning, classroom management, and professional development”.

She encouraged every teacher, school leader, and education stakeholder to embrace learning, innovation, and digital transformation and should not be afraid of the future and prepare for it as together, we can build classrooms where technology and human creativity work hand in hand to produce better learners and a better society.

She appreciated those that supported the birth of the transformative book, ” I would like to use this medium to express my profound gratitude to Almighty God for bringing this laudable project to fruition. Equally, my sincere appreciation goes to our amiable and indefatigable Governor through the Honourable Commissioner for Education by creating an enabling environment for innovation and creativity in the State’s educational sector. My immense gratitude also goes to my family, friends, colleagues, mentors, and all educational stakeholders who encouraged and supported me in making this project a reality” .
