President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will now visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in response to the recent wave of deadly violence in the state. His planned visit to Kaduna State has been moved to Thursday, June 19, to accommodate the urgent intervention in Benue.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the change on Monday, stating that Tinubu’s visit is driven by the alarming spate of killings and destruction of property across communities in Benue.
“Only on Saturday, June 14, 59 people, mostly women and children, were gruesomely murdered and properties worth billions of naira destroyed by suspected herdsmen,” Onanuga said.
The president is expected to meet with traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, community representatives, and youth groups to seek sustainable solutions to the violent conflict that has plagued the region for years.
Ahead of his visit, Tinubu has deployed top security and government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, and heads of intelligence agencies to Benue State. Also included in the delegation are the chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Defence.
“The President wants to assess the crisis firsthand and engage with stakeholders in a town hall meeting aimed at promoting peace and unity,” Onanuga added.
President Tinubu had previously condemned the continuous bloodshed in the state and appealed to all sides to embrace peace and mutual understanding. He also extended his condolences to families of victims and those affected by the attacks.
The change in itinerary highlights the urgency with which the federal government views the deteriorating security situation in Benue, and Tinubu’s personal commitment to restoring peace and stability to the troubled region.
