The Kwara State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, has appealed to the state government, local councils, and employers in the state to improve the welfare of Corps members serving across Kwara.
Speaking during the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Yikpata, Mr. Onifade commended the federal government for its recent increase in Corps members’ monthly allowance. He stressed the need for the state and other stakeholders to emulate the gesture.
“We must collectively ensure that Corps members are well taken care of,” he said. “While the federal government has played its part, it is important for states and employers—who are the direct beneficiaries of their service—to also step up by providing decent accommodation and reasonable transport allowances.”
He noted that improving their welfare is essential to motivate Corps members, especially given the harsh economic realities. “If we want them to give their best at their various places of primary assignment, we must make them feel valued,” he added.
A total of 1,308 Corps members took the oath of allegiance at the ceremony, which was administered by Justice H. Ajayi on behalf of the Chief Judge of Kwara State. She charged the new Corps members to remain committed to the ideals of national service and to uphold the oath they had taken.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Shehu Ndanusa Usman, congratulated the new Corps members and welcomed them to Kwara, describing it as a peaceful and accommodating state.
“As you begin your service year, I encourage you to embrace the people, the culture, and the opportunities in Kwara,” the Governor’s representative said. “The state remains committed to supporting the NYSC scheme.”
The ceremony marked the beginning of a year-long national service for the newly inducted Corps members in Kwara State.
