NALVEJ Elects New Officers July 1

The National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) has announced plans to conduct its election on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The election is aimed at electing new officers who will steer the affairs of the association and strengthen its commitment to the welfare and professional development of veteran journalists.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Hajia Biliqis Oladimeji, members of the association are expected to participate actively in the electoral process to ensure a transparent, credible and peaceful election.

The statement noted that several key positions will be contested during the exercise. The offices to be filled include: the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Auditor and Ex-officio members, among others.

Hajia Oladimeji urged all eligible members to turn out in large numbers and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise, stressing that the election presents an opportunity to deepen unity and strengthen the league.

She expressed confidence that the electoral committee would deliver a free, fair and credible process that would reflect the collective will of members.

The National League of Veteran Journalists is an association of retired and veteran media practitioners dedicated to promoting the welfare of its members, preserving the ethics of journalism and contributing to the growth and development of the profession.

The election is expected to attract veteran journalists and stakeholders from across Kwara State and beyond.

The incumbent Chairman and State Correspondent of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Alhaji Mohammed Tunde Akanbi will be hoping for reelection and other members of the League either gunning for reelection or hoping to be elected into the coming executive team to steer the ship for the next three years.
