NGURU EMIRATE COUNCIL GOT FG SUPPORT FOR TREE PLANTING

The Federal Government’s dedication to collaborating with conventional institutions to advance environmental sustainability through tree planting and other climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives has been reaffirmed by Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal.

This was said by the Minister when HRH Mustafa Ibn Kyari, the Emir of Nguru, and his delegation paid the Ministry a courtesy call in Abuja.

Balarabe revealed that the Ministry is diligently working to restore degraded lands, plant trees, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and fight desert encroachment in Nguru, Yobe state, and other Nigerian states, in collaboration with agencies under his jurisdiction, including the Nigeria Erosion and WaterShed Management Project (NEWMAP), the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), and Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL).

In order to help the Emirate Council reach its goal of planting 50,000 trees this year, the Minister promised the Emir that the Ministry would supply 100,000 tree seedlings.

The Minister mentioned the Hadejia-Jamare River basin, the Lake Chad Basin, and the Nguru watershed as additional areas of focus.

As part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s Renew Hope Agenda on the environment, the minister assured the emir that the ministry would unwaveringly support his efforts to combat climate change.

Prior to this, Mustafa Ibn Kyari, the emir of Nguru HRH, praised Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal for acting quickly to address environmental issues in the Nguru Emirate Council through projects being carried out through NAGGW, AcreSal, and NEWMAP.

The chairman of the Forest Farmers Cooperative Society Nguru, Abba Liman, who works in agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, and livestock development, accompanied the emir on the courtesy call.

Other topics include access to agricultural financing, employment opportunities for women and youth, and environmental protection.

Liman praised the Minister for the ministry’s and its agencies’ successful cooperation with the Emirate.

Abubakar Sale CON, the Director-General of the NAGGW, praised the Nguru Emirate Council for recognizing the Ministry of Environment and its Agencies and for their successful cooperation in reducing the impact of climate change on the Council.
Recall that the Minister has since received the report from the Presidential committee on Nguru Ecological Intervention.
