Strengthening Ties: ITU and NITDA Collaborate on Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Agenda

Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), recently led a high-level delegation to the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to deepen cooperation on Nigeria’s digital evolution. Accompanied by ITU Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Emmanuel Manasseh, the visit centered on tackling connectivity gaps and fostering inclusive ICT growth.

Representing the Director General of NITDA, Dr. Warowei Dimie highlighted the agency’s goal of reaching 70% digital literacy by 2027. Key discussions focused on the National Digital Literacy Framework and the use of grassroots initiatives—including NYSC members as digital ambassadors—to reach underserved rural areas.

Dr. Zavazava reaffirmed the ITU’s commitment to bridging the global digital divide, noting that Nigeria is a key participant in critical projects, such as the €15 million ITU-European Commission broadband mapping initiative and global cybersecurity drills. This visit reinforces a shared vision of leveraging international expertise to build resilient, local digital infrastructure.
