Osun 2026: APC Settles for Oyebamiji as Consensus Flagbearer

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked former Managing Director of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr Bola Oyebamiji, as its governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Osun State.

Oyebamiji emerged on Saturday after delegates of the party unanimously affirmed him at the APC governorship primary held in Osogbo, the state capital.

The exercise was overseen by the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who chaired the party’s primary election committee. A total of 1,660 accredited delegates participated in the process.

The former NIWA boss was nominated by one of the aspirants, Mr Kunle Adegoke, SAN, and seconded by another contender, Senator Babajide Omoworare, signalling early consensus among the aspirants before the final affirmation.

Following a voice vote conducted by the primary committee chairman, the delegates collectively endorsed Oyebamiji as the party’s flagbearer.

Announcing the result, Governor Okpebholo said the process reflected the collective will of party members in the state.

“By the power conferred on me as chairman of the APC governorship primary election committee, I hereby declare Bola Oyebamiji as the duly elected candidate of our party for the Osun governorship election,” he stated.

Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, is expected to lead the party’s campaign ahead of the governorship poll, as the APC intensifies efforts to reclaim Osun State.

Party leaders present at the primary described the outcome as a show of unity and called on members to close ranks ahead of the general election. Oyebamiji, in his brief remarks after the declaration, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to run an inclusive campaign focused on good governance and development across Osun State.
