Kwara Police Warn Against Sharing Fake Protest Videos After Viral Clip Sparks Alarm

The Kwara State Police Command has clarified that a video circulating on social media, allegedly showing an assault during a protest at the Government House on December 27, 2025, is entirely fabricated. Forensic analysis confirmed that the footage was digitally manipulated, combining unrelated violent scenes with shots from a separate peaceful protest to create a false narrative.

Police also revealed that some images being shared alongside the video are from past incidents, unrelated to the Government House event. Investigators have so far been unable to locate or speak with the two women featured in the clip, and no official complaints have been filed by anyone claiming to be a victim.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, stressed the importance of proper coordination before public demonstrations. “It is crucial that organisers notify the police in advance so we can provide adequate security, prevent hoodlums from hijacking the event, and safeguard the rights of all participants,” he said.

The police command urged citizens to verify the authenticity of content before sharing it online. SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer, added, “Spreading false information can cause unnecessary panic and undermine public trust. We appeal to everyone to exercise caution and responsibility on social media.”

The Kwara State Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public order and protecting the rights of all citizens.
