The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has commenced a three-day capacity-building programme for intelligence and investigation personnel, with a renewed call for closer collaboration among security agencies to combat emerging security threats across the country.
The training, which began on Tuesday at the State Library Conference Hall in Ilorin, is themed “Ethical and Actionable Intelligence Sharing and Operational Collaboration Among Security Agencies in Nigeria.”
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed, represented by the Deputy Commandant in charge of Administration, DCC Ayelabowo Isaac Olusegun, described intelligence as the foundation of effective security operations.
He said the growing challenges of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime, violent extremism, illegal mining and the vandalism of critical national assets have made stronger cooperation among security agencies more important than ever.
“No security agency can effectively confront these complex threats in isolation. Sustainable national security can only be achieved through mutual trust, professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights and responsible intelligence management,” he said.
Mohammed explained that the programme was designed to improve participants’ competence in intelligence gathering and analysis, ethical intelligence management, investigative report writing, operational planning, joint security operations, financial crime investigation, public relations and human rights compliance.
He urged participants to actively engage in the lectures, practical sessions and interactive discussions, noting that the knowledge acquired should enhance intelligence coordination, improve service delivery and strengthen the protection of lives, property and critical national assets.
The commandant also said the initiative aligns with the vision of the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to promote continuous professional development and improve the operational effectiveness of the Corps nationwide.
The training brings together NSCDC personnel and resource persons drawn from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Customs Service, Central Bank of Nigeria, National Human Rights Commission, Nigerian Bar Association and the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
According to the Command, the programme, which runs from August 4 to August 6, is part of its commitment to building a more professional, intelligence-driven and collaborative security architecture capable of responding effectively to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
