The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Suleman Mamuda, for allegedly killing his wife, Umaima Maidawa, during a domestic disagreement in Bayawa Village, Augie Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident, which occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Monday, reportedly followed a quarrel between the couple. Umaima, said to be 25 years old, was allegedly struck with the wooden handle of a hoe, an attack that led to her death.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bashir Usman, said the suspect inflicted fatal injuries on his wife during the altercation.
“The suspect allegedly used the wooden handle of a hoe to hit his wife, which resulted in her death,” Usman stated.
He explained that Mamuda fled Bayawa Village immediately after the incident but was later apprehended through credible intelligence supplied by members of the community.
“After committing the act, the suspect escaped from the area but was traced and arrested based on useful information provided by residents,” the police spokesman said.
Usman disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has ordered that the matter be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a detailed investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the SCID for discreet investigation and prosecution,” he added.
The police command used the incident to caution residents against domestic violence, urging people to seek lawful means of resolving family disputes.
“We appeal to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of domestic violence and other criminal activities to the police to help sustain peace and security across the state,” Usman said.
