‎Nigeria is proud to have once again shown its leadership in using technology to promote accountability, transparency, and public participation in governance.

‎Nigeria performed exceptionally well at the just-completed 2025 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit in Spain, taking home two coveted international honors that solidify its developing standing as a leader in digital governance.

‎In order to honor Nigeria’s dedication to promoting Open Digital Governance throughout the region, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) worked with the civil society organization Dataphyte to lead the country’s efforts that were recognized with the Regional Award for Africa and the Middle East.

‎Out of the 160 commitments made by 42 participating nations, Nigeria further made history by winning the worldwide Thematic Award for Digital Governance.

‎These accolades are evidence of Nigeria’s successful government-civil society collaboration strategy as well as NITDA’s steadfast dedication to creating an inclusive, citizen-centered digital ecosystem.

‎Nigeria is showing how digital transformation can improve accountability and public trust in governance through initiatives based on transparency, innovation, and data-driven policymaking.

‎This accomplishment comes after Nigeria’s outstanding involvement and submission of strategic commitments on digital governance, showcasing ground-breaking partnerships, platforms, and policies intended to increase technology-driven and participatory governance.

‎The pledges emphasized the role of Nigeria’s digital transformation strategy, which is based on openness, accessibility, and inclusivity and is supported by NITDA, which is a division of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.

‎Nigeria has established itself as a continental leader and a significant voice in determining the direction of open and digital governance globally thanks to these international accolades.

‎The honors provide encouragement and validation for ongoing initiatives to increase public involvement, encourage data transparency, and fortify accountability through cutting-edge technological solutions.
