Unilorin Shines as 36 of 37 Courses Secure Full NUC Accreditation

The University of Ilorin has recorded another major academic feat as 36 out of the 37 academic programmes it presented to the National Universities Commission (NUC) have secured full accreditation status.

This is according to the result of the NUC accreditation exercise carried out in October and November 2024, which was officially communicated to the university in a letter dated April 30, 2025. The letter, signed by the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, stated that only one course—Hausa—was granted interim accreditation, with none denied approval.

The breakdown of the results shows that all 17 programmes from the Faculty of Education were fully accredited. Also earning full accreditation were programmes in the Faculties of Management Sciences, Basic Medical Science, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Communication and Information Sciences.

From the Faculty of Arts, Igbo secured full accreditation, while Hausa received interim status.

Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said the institution received the news with pride and a deep sense of fulfillment.

“We are happy to be so recognised. We are indeed elated,” Prof. Egbewole stated in a message released by the university’s spokesperson, Mr. Kunle Akogun.

He attributed the success to the consistent investment in academic infrastructure and personnel by the university administration. “This is a confirmation of our commitment to quality education and excellence in service delivery,” he said.

While appreciating the efforts of the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and faculty members, the Vice Chancellor pledged that the institution would continue to strive for greater achievements.

“We hope to continue positioning the University of Ilorin for more recognitions and improved performance,” he assured.
