Stakeholders have called on Nigerian youths to take advantage of the numerous empowerment schemes and job creation opportunities provided by government, for decent livelihood.
The stakeholders made the call on Tuesday in Ilorin, at a sensitisation campaign on youth restiveness prevention through job creation schemes organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA)
Kwara State NOA Director, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Dare stated that the Federal Government through various programmes has trained youths across the country on various digital skills for sustainable living.
Mr Dare said such programmes underscore the government’s commitment to creating an environment where youths can thrive and contribute to national development.
He affirmed that such skills would not only grant youths financial independence but also make them employers of labour.
In his address, the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Musa Ndanusa stated that the Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq’s administration is passionate about youths, hence their inclusion in his cabinet for quality representation.
Mallam Ndanusa noted that the recently inaugurated Sugar Film Factory, Innovation Hub as well as IVTEC, were established to encourage young people to learn and be resourceful for public good.
He also appealed to government to give employment consideration to paramilitary youth based associations during recruitment, to encourage them.
On his part, the State Coordinator, National Directorate of Employment, Mr Segun Adelodun, listed some key areas of trainings provided by the agency to include vocational trainings, special public works, and graduate attachment.
Mr Adelodun represented by Mrs Ronke Olajide, announced that 2,285 youths in Kwara benefited from the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Empowerment Initiatives.
He urged the youths to take advantage of the opportunities to empower themselves rather than engage in get-rich-quick syndrome.
In separate submissions, representatives of security agencies at the event, including the Director of Information, EFCC, Zonal Office, Ilorin, Mr Ayodele Babatunde and the Commissioner of Police, called for improved parenting as charity behins at home.
The remaining stakeholders like the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, the Nigeria Forest Security Service, and NDLEA also called for community intelligence gathering and policing to curb youth restiveness.
