NESREA TO UNVEIL DIGITAL MARKETPLACE FOR WASTE FOR WASTES TRANSACTIONS.

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency has finalized plans to introduce a digital marketplace for waste transactions in line with Nigeria’s adoption of the circular economy.
NESREA and Recyclestack have partnered to create the Waste Marketplace Nigeria platform, which aims to digitize Nigeria’s circular economy. The Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Program, which expands a producer’s accountability over the course of a product’s lifecycle, is how the circular economy is implemented in Nigeria.
Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), recyclers, and collectors are important players along the value chain for EPR, which operates in industries like food and beverage, batteries, used tires, and electrical electronics.
NESREA intends to improve digital inclusion, create jobs for the informal sector, increase material recovery, decrease illegal dumping, and raise recycling rates through the Waste Marketplace Nigeria platform.

In addition to strengthening compliance and enforcement of environmental standards by acting as a data mining source in waste management, the platform aims to onboard at least 10,000 verified users in the first four months. After launching in Lagos and Abuja, the project will be expanded to other major cities throughout the nation.
Speaking about the initiative, Prof. Innocent Barikor, Director General of NESREA, stated: “Waste Marketplace Nigeria offers a revolutionary chance to digitize Nigeria’s waste economy while facilitating accountability, regulation, and economic empowerment.” Additionally, it aligns with our goal of using partnerships and creative solutions to address environmental issues.
He continued by saying, “This partnership between NESREA and Recyclestack is in a good position to formalize the industry, generate investments, establish inclusive green jobs, and guarantee environmental compliance.” Additionally, it aligns with the National Development Goals and will act as a template for other African nations.
