Labour Unions Urge Tinubu to Review Grievances Before Appointing New MINILS DG

Labour unions at the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, have urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider the reports and petitions submitted to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment before appointing a new Director General for the institute.

The unions made this known during a briefing with their members, where they provided updates on their ongoing struggle for reforms within the institute.

Speaking at the gathering, the Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Research, MINILS Chapter, Ruth Ejechi; the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Idris Abdulmajeed; and the Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union, Dele Joel Afolayan, jointly emphasised that all their grievances and recommendations have been formally submitted to the Minister of Labour and Employment.

“We believe the President and the Honourable Minister will do the right thing by addressing our concerns before naming a new Director General,” Ejechi stated.

The union leaders expressed deep dissatisfaction with what they described as stagnation and underdevelopment at the institute over the past four years, blaming the situation on the previous leadership.

They insisted that any future appointment must reflect competence, transparency, and an understanding of the institute’s core mandate.
