Kwara Shines on National Stage with Historic Cup Win, Debate Triumph

Kwara State recorded a major breakthrough in sports and education as Kwara United Football Club clinched the 2025 President Federation Cup — the first time the state has ever lifted the prestigious trophy since its creation in 1967.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who celebrated with the team shortly after their triumph over Abakaliki FC, described the victory as a defining moment in the state’s history.

“This is a joyful moment not just for the team but for all Kwarans. Our boys have made history, and I am overwhelmed with pride. It’s a testament to what discipline, determination, and unity can achieve,” the Governor said.

The Governor extended commendations to the players, coaching staff, the Sports Commission, the club management, and loyal supporters. He also acknowledged the contributions of Kwarans in the diaspora, noting that their collective support played a vital role in the team’s success.

Adding to the state’s growing list of achievements, Kwara also emerged victorious in the national Senior President School Debate Competition — another historic first for the state.

Governor AbdulRazaq linked both accomplishments to the government’s consistent investment in youth development, education, and sports.

“Our students have now won the President School Debate Competition for three consecutive editions. These feats are not accidental. They reflect strategic investments in key sectors that shape the future of our youths,” he added.

The Governor congratulated Kwarans both at home and abroad, expressing optimism that the state will continue to shine nationally and globally.

“These wins are proof that Kwara is moving forward. We’re building a future where our youth can thrive — in sports, in academics, and beyond.”
