Kwara CP Pledges Open Communication, Internal Reforms to Boost Trust

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Adekimi Ojo, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and cooperative relationship with journalists in the state.

Speaking during an interactive session with members of the press on Sunday at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ilorin, Ojo acknowledged the critical role the media plays in linking the police with the wider public. He assured journalists of an open communication channel, saying it is essential for fostering public trust and enhancing security efforts.

“We are partners in progress,” Ojo said. “The media is an important bridge between the police and the people, and we are ready to deepen that collaboration for the benefit of all.”

Responding to concerns raised by journalists during the engagement, the police chief revealed that the X-Squad unit of the command will be revitalised to monitor the conduct of officers and curb misconduct.

“We are working to reposition the X-Squad to ensure professionalism and discipline within the ranks. Accountability is key to earning the trust of the people,” he stated.

Ojo also addressed the issue of parading suspects before the media, noting that the practice has been discontinued in line with directives from the Inspector General of Police. “Every suspect remains innocent until proven guilty in court,” he said, adding that the police must respect the legal rights of all individuals.

He called on the media to support the police in fulfilling their constitutional mandate, stressing that the successes of the command could only reach the public through responsible journalism.

The event was attended by senior police officers, including Divisional Police Officers from various parts of the state.
