In Abuja, Nigeria The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, is leading a powerful delegation to the Senior Executive Leadership Program in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from May 17–23, 2025, in a major step to transform Nigeria’s public service. This historic initiative, which is crucial to the transformation of Nigeria’s public sector, is expected to be crucial to the growth of the nation.
Nigeria’s efforts to modernize governance, improve service delivery, and accomplish Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16—which calls for the promotion of inclusive, accountable, and effective institutions—rely heavily on this ground-breaking project, which is a partnership between the UAE Government Experience Exchange Office and the United Nations. These prestigious organizations’ participation highlights the initiative’s legitimacy and potential impact, boosting confidence in its success.
The program is intended to give Nigeria’s top public sector leaders state-of-the-art skills in digital transformation for more creative governance, policy innovation to propel national development, and adaptive leadership to handle complex challenges. It is in line with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 25) and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Through peer exchanges, strategic discussions, and high-impact experiential learning with more than 15 UAE government agencies, the delegation will acquire knowledge of best practices that will hasten Nigeria’s public sector reforms.
Facilitated by UNSG Chair Amina J. Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, GCON is a significant step in promoting digitalization throughout Nigeria’s public sector and supports SDG 16. The program, which has the kind support of the UAE government, demonstrates a common dedication to excellence in the public sector. Nigeria’s commitment to creating a future-ready civil service is demonstrated by the participation of its highest-ranking civil servants, such as the Director-General of NITDA, Federal Permanent Secretaries, and the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC). This gives hope for the public sector’s future.
This goal goes beyond a training program; it is a calculated investment in Nigeria’s governance structure that will make the Civil Service a driving force for efficiency, innovation, and the advancement of the country. The results will reinforce the FCSSIP 25’s goal of a world-class civil service and directly aid in the digitalization of Nigeria’s public sector. This investment will show a strong commitment to national progress by creating a more responsive and efficient public sector that is better able to meet the needs of the Nigerian people.
