As part of the 2025 Children’s Day celebrations, the Well Being Foundation Africa (WBFA) has urged students in Kwara State to adopt proper hygiene practices, including regular handwashing and sanitation, to ensure a healthier and safer future.
Speaking during the Dettol Hygiene Quest Walk in Ilorin on Tuesday, the WBFA National Programmes Manager, Mr Kehinde Akinsola, said the event symbolised a collective commitment to children’s health and wellbeing across the state and Nigeria at large.
“Today, we celebrate not only our children, but also the power of hygiene, health education, and community,” Akinsola said. “Through our Hygiene Quest programme, thousands of students are receiving life-saving lessons that will protect and empower them for the future.”
He appreciated the support from stakeholders and applauded the participating students for showing commitment to cleanliness and personal hygiene.
“As we walk today, let each step remind us of our duty to keep our surroundings clean, care for one another, and raise a generation that values good hygiene,” he added.
Representing the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, Mrs Eunice Abidoye praised WBFA for instilling the hygiene culture in children, noting that such education is key to national development.
The Chairman, Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Raheem Adaramaja, represented by Mr Idiagbon Adebimpe, encouraged students to extend the handwashing message to their families and communities.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Nafisat Buge, represented by Mrs Sherifat Isiaka, advised students to always wash their hands after using the toilet and before meals to prevent disease outbreaks.
Commissioner for Social Development, Dr Mariam Nnafatimah Imam, represented by Alhaji Hamzat Oladimeji, commended the initiative and stressed the importance of sharing the hygiene message with others.
The hygiene awareness walk saw the participation of 100 students drawn from 20 schools across the state, alongside key stakeholders and community leaders.
