Al-Hikmah University to Graduate 2,211 Students, 47 Bag First Class in 14th Convocation, 20th Anniversary

Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, is set to graduate 2,211 students during its 14th Convocation Ceremony and 20th Anniversary celebration slated for January 7, 2025.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noah Yusuf, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Ilorin on Monday.

Highlighting the achievements, Prof. Yusuf revealed that 47 of the graduating students will bag First Class degrees. “We will be graduating 1,748 undergraduates, 47 of whom will receive First Class honours. Additionally, 736 students earned Second Class (Upper Division), 886 secured Second Class (Lower Division), and 76 will graduate with Third Class honours,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that the ceremony will witness the award of postgraduate degrees, with 42 Ph.D. students, 283 Master’s degree students, and 59 diploma recipients set to graduate.

Prof. Yusuf reflected on the journey of the university, which was established in 2005 as Nigeria’s first Islamic faith-based tertiary institution. The institution commenced academic activities with 70 students across three faculties and has since grown to an enrollment of 11,800 students, including 7,500 undergraduates, 2,000 postgraduates, and 2,300 part-time students. The university now boasts eight faculties, including Agriculture, Law, and Computing and Engineering, among others.

In addition to the convocation, the university will host a series of events to mark its 20th Anniversary. Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, is scheduled to deliver the convocation lecture on December 30, 2024. The lecture, titled “Beyond Oil: Exploring Alternative Revenue Potentials for Economic Growth and Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” will take place at the Faculty of Law Moot Court, Atere Campus, Ilorin.

The anniversary lecture, to be delivered by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State on January 7, 2025, will focus on “Two Decades of Academic Excellence: Reflections on the Role of Faith-Based Universities in Combating Moral and Spiritual Decadence in Nigeria.”

As part of the celebrations, the university will also commission key projects, including the Faculty of Management Sciences Building at its Atere Campus.

Prof. Yusuf commended the institution’s growth over the years and reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and the promotion of moral values.
