Ilorin in Shock as Missing Student Found Murdered, Dismembered

The Ilorin community has been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education. The 24-year-old, who went missing on February 10 after attending a naming ceremony, was found dismembered in the residence of a suspect in the Offa Garage area.

According to sources, Yetunde abruptly left the gathering after receiving a phone call, never to be seen alive again. Her father, Ibrahim Lawal, reported her disappearance the next day at the Oja-Oba Police Division, triggering an investigation that led to a shocking discovery.

Police operatives, tracking her last known contact, arrested a young man linked to the case. The suspect, identified as the son of a prominent Islamic cleric from Isalekoto, initially denied involvement. However, a search of his residence unearthed chilling evidence—Yetunde’s dismembered remains hidden in a bowl, alongside tools believed to have been used in the act.

“At first, he claimed she suffered an asthma attack and died in his house,” a police source disclosed. “But further investigation suggested a more sinister motive. The way her body was handled indicates this may not be his first crime.”

Preliminary findings suggest that Yetunde was lured through Facebook, where she had reportedly been in contact with the suspect before he invited her over. Forensic experts are examining additional evidence to determine if there are other victims.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, assured the public of a thorough investigation. “A suspect has been arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further probing. Justice will be served,” she said.

As Yetunde’s devastated family and fellow students call for swift justice, security agencies are urging the public—especially young people—to be cautious about their interactions, particularly with strangers met online.
