The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), the apex sociocultural organization of the Ilorin Emirate, has called for an immediate end to the escalating political tensions among supporters of various leaders in the community.

In a statement issued by its National President, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, the Union expressed concern over the heated exchanges, particularly on radio platforms, and emphasized the need for peace and unity.

Alhaji Abdulmalik disclosed that, in collaboration with traditional authorities and elders of the Emirate, steps have been initiated to address the growing rift among prominent figures in the Emirate.

“With the interventions of the Emirate’s traditional authorities and elders, the brewing misunderstanding will be swiftly and amicably resolved,” he assured.

Reflecting on the adverse impact of past political crises, the IEDPU President lamented how such conflicts have often resulted in setbacks for ordinary citizens.

He urged all stakeholders to refrain from actions or statements that could worsen the situation.

“We plead for the cooperation of all concerned to ensure that peace and harmony prevail in the interest of our community,” he added.

The statement, signed by Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahim, the National Publicity Secretary of the IEDPU, further called on supporters of political leaders to prioritize unity and avoid divisive rhetoric.
